Material Philosophy
At Anmai, material choices are guided by intention, knowledge, and respect for craftsmanship.
We carefully select materials that are beautiful, durable, and made to stand the test of time. By prioritizing longevity and timeless elegance, every Anmai design is created to be worn and valued for years.
Our primary material sourcing currently takes place in Italy and Portugal, known for their long-standing textile traditions and high level of expertise.
At this stage, materials are sourced mainly through trusted, long-term Finnish fabric agents, whom the founder and designer Anne-Mari Pahkala knows personally. These close relationships allow for consistency, reliability, and a deeper understanding of each material’s origin and qualities.
Material development is an essential part of Anmai’s design process. Anne-Mari Pahkala continuously explores the evolving textile industry by visiting international trade fairs in Italy and France, building relationships, and discovering new, innovative materials.
Anmai’s timeless aesthetic is reflected in a carefully curated material palette. Each fabric is selected with purpose — for its quality, its function, and its ability to support the enduring quality of the design.
We value natural materials, which form the foundation of most Anmai designs, alongside other carefully selected high-quality materials.

Craftsmanship Philosophy
Anmai embraces a mindful rhythm of production, creating designs in pre-order campaigns, made-to-measure services, or in small batches, ensuring careful use of resources and minimal waste. We work in small, dedicated teams and know every member of our production. Our seamstress partners in Finland and Tallinn are trusted collaborators, and all of our refined, unique creations are crafted in collaboration with skilled Finnish artisans. Care, integrity, and respect - for every hand, every process, and for nature itself, are at the heart of everything we do.
