Materials & Craftsmanship

At Anmai, material is a central starting point in the design process. Each material is selected for its quality, function and suitability for the design. Founder and designer Anne-Mari Pahkala develops Anmai’s material direction through ongoing research and collaboration with fabric agents and textile manufacturers in Finland, Italy, Portugal and Japan.

Material Selection

Anmai’s material selection evolves through ongoing research and development. In her design work, founder and designer Anne-Mari Pahkala places particular emphasis on high-quality natural materials, alongside other materials selected for their quality, durability and suitability for the intended use. Exact composition, origin and production information are provided for each design where verified.

Craftsmanship & Production

Anmai designs are currently produced in Finland in collaboration with skilled manufacturing partners. Production is planned according to the requirements of each design, from construction and fit to finishing. Working with a close network of partners enables direct communication and consistent attention to quality throughout the process.

On-Demand

Anmai works through limited on-demand order periods. Designs are produced in response to confirmed orders rather than in large quantities in advance. This model reflects Anmai’s aim to rethink production — to work closer to actual demand, reduce unnecessary production, use materials and skilled work more thoughtfully, and make every design count.

Care & Longevity

Anmai believes in longevity and timelessness as guiding principles. Material selection, design and careful making form the foundation, while appropriate care helps each design retain its quality and remain in use over time.
